چکیده

INTRODUCTION: This paper presents a model to predict bone ingrowth on cementless stems after a total hip arthroplasty. The post-operative fixation and the osseous-integration depend on the mechanical stability of the prosthesis. Actually, the micromovements between bone and stem are related to the amount of bone ingrowth on porous surface of the stem. Thus, a model developed for this interface analysis combining remodeling and bone ingrowth is applied to two different stems. The objective is to conclude about the influence of stem geometry in the bone ingrowth behavior.

Total Hip Replacement Revision in a Single Brand Small Cementless Stem – Our Experience after the Findings of the National Joint Registry

Background: Cementless total hip replacement is the common THR performed in England, Wales, Northern Irelandand the Isle of Man. The Corail stem is the most popular cementless implant and has a ODEP 10A rating. Review ofits performance in the registry identified an increase rate of revision amongst the smaller stem sizes. However, claritywas not provided on the explanation for this finding. We ...

Comparison of Specific Femoral Short Stems and Conventional-Length Stems in Primary Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty.

There are several reported disadvantages with conventional-length femoral stems in cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA). Therefore, various efforts have been made to develop a specific femoral short stem to improve physiologic bone remodeling at the femoral aspect of a cementless THA. However, there are potential disadvantages with specific femoral short stems, such as malalignment, inadvert...

Cementless femoral fixation in total hip arthroplasty.

Cementless femoral fixation by means of bone ingrowth has been successful in total hip arthroplasty in patients with sufficient bone quality. Consistent bone ingrowth and resultant long-term success involve many factors, including surgical technique, initial mechanical stability achieved at time of implantation, stem design and material, and implant surface. One potential method for achieving f...

Extensively porous-coated stems for femoral revision: reliable choice for stem revision in Paprosky femoral type III defects.

Between January 1999 and August 2008, ninety-six femoral revisions were performed with extensively porous-coated stems in Paprosky type III femoral defects (89 type IIIA and 7 type IIIB defects). Seven type IIIB defects with a mean canal of 16.5 mm were observed; 6 defects achieved stable bone ingrowth and 1 achieved stable fibrous condition. Average postoperative Harris Hip Score was 92.3±8 (r...

Four- to six-year follow-up of primary THA using contemporary titanium tapered stems.

Tapered cementless femoral components have been used in total hip arthroplasty constructs for more than 20 years. In the past 5 to 10 years, these stems have gained popularity in the United States. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of the authors’ initial experience using a contemporary tapered, proximally porous-coated, titanium femoral component at 4 to 6 years of follow-u...
